Classic Car Hire FAQs

Classic Car Hire FAQs

The most Frequently Asked Questions:

Booking

We are unable to accept ‘walks in hires’, i.e. short notice hires, therefore please book at least 7 working days in advance of the hire.

Simply ring or e–mail your requirements. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment and it is always preferable to have alternative dates in mind. A deposit of £50 will be required to confirm the booking and this will normally be taken by a credit/debit card.

Height & weight restrictions

Please let us know when booking if you are under 5’ 6” or over 6’ 3” tall and weigh over 16 stone as there are cars that you simply may not be able to comfortably drive.

Parking for Your Car

You are welcome to leave your car with us during the period of the hire. Obviously at your own risk but our premises are secure.

Gift Vouchers

We can provide a personalised gift letter for any amount to cover part or the full cost of the hire. The choice of car and the hire period can be specified at a later date. Gift letters are valid until 30th November annually.

Accommodation

On request we will be happy to provide details of local accommodation matching your requirements. We are able to recommend local accommodation ranging from country hotels to farmhouse B&B’s. Wiltshire is a beautiful county with many attractions and the setting makes for a wonderful holiday.

Delivery

We will always do our best to accommodate local delivery, however please check at the time of booking.

Insurance

Fully comprehensive insurance is included with the hire and covers one person to drive. Additional drivers can be covered for a small surcharge of £25 per day.

Eligibility for insurance is as follows:

  • Drivers aged between 25 and 75 inclusive.
  • No more than 6 points in their driving licence.
  • Held a UK driving licence for not less than 3 years.
  • Have not been involved in an “at fault” motoring accident or loss during the previous 3 years.
  • Not subject to any mental or physical defect or infirmity or suffered from fits or major medical complaint.

Vintage Classics will, at their sole discretion, approach the insurers to discuss an individual case should they fail to meet all of the criteria above.

Mileage Limits

To ensure the vehicles are used wholly for leisure there is a mileage limit of 175 miles per day calculated over the total hire period. For most people this will never be exceeded but please contact us to discuss any special circumstances.

Security Deposit

A credit/debit card pre-authorisation of £1000 will be held. This deposit is common to all classic car hire companies as well as general car hire. The amount is used to cover the any excess due on the insurance policy should an accident or damage occur or will be used to offset any damage in respect of items not covered by our insurance policy.

Fuel

At the start of the hire the car will be supplied with a full tank of petrol (subject to delivery) and it is a requirement of the hire for the car to be returned with a full tank of fuel.

The grade of fuel required for the vehicle will be advised at the time of the hire. This is normally Super Unleaded Petrol.

Breakdowns

All of our vehicles are serviced and repaired by specialists companies to ensure maximum reliability. However, given the age of the vehicles we have covered this slight risk by a national breakdown service. In the rare event the vehicle breaks down the service will ensure that a fully trained mechanic will be in attendance as quickly as possible.

Driving Abroad

Currently the vehicles cannot be driven outside of the UK mainland.

Chauffeur Hire

We do not offer a chauffeur service

Pets

Pets / animals are not allowed in the car

HCHG

The Historic and Classic-car Hirers Guild (HCHG) was formed to ensure that each member offered the highest level of standards to their clients. Vintage Classics are proud to be members of the Guild and would recommend that when hiring a classic vehicle, customers should check that the company they are hiring from belongs to a professional run organisation ensuring quality of service.
